About Unlock
Remove the opening password from a PDF you are allowed to open. Enter the current password once and get back a copy that opens without it.
How to use Unlock
- Drop the password-protected PDF onto the sheet.
- Type the file's current password.
- Press Run and download the unlocked copy.
Frequently asked questions
- Can Inkwell unlock a PDF without the password?
- No. Unlock is not a password cracker; you must know the current password. It saves a copy without encryption so you do not have to type the password again.
- Is anything lost when unlocking?
- The pages and their content are copied into a new file. Document-level extras such as bookmarks are not carried over.
- Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is read and processed inside your browser tab, and the result is created on your device. It is kept only in your browser's own storage until you remove it.
