About Password protect
Lock a PDF with a password so it cannot be opened without it. Inkwell encrypts the file with AES-256 inside your browser, and the password is never sent anywhere.
How to use Password protect
- Drop the PDF you want to protect onto the sheet.
- Type the password people will need to open it.
- Press Run and download the locked PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- How strong is the encryption?
- The file is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest method in the PDF standard. A long, unique password matters just as much.
- Can Inkwell recover a forgotten password?
- No. Inkwell does not store your password and has no way to open the file without it. Keep the password somewhere safe.
- Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is read and processed inside your browser tab, and the result is created on your device. It is kept only in your browser's own storage until you remove it.
