About Compress
Shrink a heavy PDF, such as one full of scans or photos, by rebuilding every page as a compressed JPEG image. It runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded.
How to use Compress
- Drop the PDF you want to shrink onto the sheet.
- Move the Quality slider: lower gives a smaller file, higher gives sharper pages.
- Press Run, compare the new size shown in the output, and download the compressed PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- Will text still be selectable after compressing?
- No. Each page becomes a picture, so text can no longer be selected, searched, or copied, and links stop working. Keep the original if you need those.
- Why did my file get bigger?
- PDFs made mostly of text are already small, and turning their pages into images can make them larger. Compress works best on scanned documents and image-heavy files.
- Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The file is read and processed inside your browser tab, and the result is created on your device. It is kept only in your browser's own storage until you remove it.
